This simple building on the corner of Glendon St. and School St. was the new home of the New England Telephone Company Exchange in 1940. A later brick structure is now on the site. Here's something hard to believe; Wolfeboro had 15 phone operators until 1964. The Town was one of the last areas in NH to get 7-digit dialing service. Always lagging, for unknown reasons, 911 emergency calling wasn't available until 1993.
