The center of downtown shows, L-R, the Piper House (moved toward the water in 1956 - Yum Yum Bakery is now there), the Durgin Block, the Railroad Depot, the one-story Goodwin Block (after the 1899 fire), the large Peavey Block (now Avery Block), and on the far right above the trees, the mansard roof of Hobbs-Is-Inn, later the Hotel Elmwood, now the Post Office. Notice how close the water is to the buildings; quite a large area was filled in, starting in 1933, to establish the present shore line. C. 1900.
