As Wolfeboro evolved as a tourist destination, the need for accommodations grew. While early travelers had taverns or guest houses available, the late 1800's began a era of "Grand Hotels". Wolfeboro, with its beautiful scenery and many attractions, was no exception. A very few are still active today, gradually replaced by cabin colonies, motels, and privately owned homes.
