The Allen "A" Resort on Rte. 28 was begun in 1935 by Allen H. and Lillian L. Albee. The enormous resort provided lodging, meals and entertainment and expanded to as many as 80 cabins, 5 lodges, the 1810 House, a theater (quonset hut, now the Boat Museum), dude ranch, beach on Lake Wentworth (now Albee Beach), several dining halls and a motel. After many successful years with hundreds of guests each week during the summer, a period of decline began as Allen H. Albee, in poor health, sold the resort. In the early 1980's, only the motel was active. This 1954 photo is the Allen "A" Resort band entertaining in the Quonset Hut Theater. See also, photos 36, 37, 55-71 in this group.
