This log cabin is from New Hampshire, but not local. It is included because it represents the first home that the settlers would have built upon arriving. Only one or two rooms were built at first. The trees would be from their own property, needing to be cut to create fields for farming. These logs are probably smoother than most cabins were. Gaps would be "chinked" with anything that would stay in place, including straw, clay or moss. The only difference is the roof, which would have had hand cut wood shingles. The asphalt shingles on this cabin were invented in 1903, and widely used shortly thereafter.
