This is the Daniel Pickering store at the corner of South Main St. and Center St., c. 1920. The photo is taken from the field across South Main St. The Civil War statue is on the right. The store was built c. 1820 and torn down in sections, the last part in 1937. A gas station is there now. The brick building on the left, still in use today, was built in 1836 to house the Wolfeborough Bank. The Bank was founded in 1834 and had a short scandalous history. Later owned by Dr. Nathaniel Scott & his family, it was used as a boarding house from the 1900's into the 1960's and is still known as the Scott house.
