The original Goodwin Block on South Main St. was built in the 1860's between the Peavey Block and the bridge. This photo dates to c. 1888. The four businesses and entryway were, L-R: Restaurant; Richardson & Hill dry goods (bought out Parker, previous photo); entryway (leads to offices & the Wolfeborough Savings Bank on the second floor, & Masonic Hall on the third floor); Everett S. Albee jewelry business; and N. H. Scott Drug Store. The walkway along the outlet from the Smith River is on the right, and the Boston & Maine Railroad Wharf building is in the right background. The Goodwin Block burned down in 1899 and was quickly replaced by a simple one-story building. The Wharf building was also destroyed.
