The Goodwin Block on South Main St. between the Avery Block and the bridge has had a checkered history. Originally built as an elegant 3-story mansard design in the 1860's, it was destroyed by a massive fire in 1899, then quickly replaced by a simple 1-story building. That building was destroyed by fire on Oct. 13, 1908 and rebuilt by J. Frank Goodwin in early 1909. This 1993 photo shows the occupants, L-R; Hemenway House, gifts and furniture; New England Craftsmen Association; and Tobey's Pharmacy, an original tenant in 1909. Today, the businesses are Wolfeboro Casuals and Emma Taylor, both clothing stores.
