The Lewando & Mattison store, c. 1884, was located on South Main St. where the Peavey Block (now Avery Block) is located today. The building was purchased by John L. Peavey and moved back towards the lake about 1889 to make way for the construction of the new Peavey Block. The building on the right is the original Goodwin Block. Both the Goodwin Block and the Lewando & Mattison store later burned down in the 1899 fire; the Peavey Block was saved. People are, L-R, Sylvester A. Edgerly (in wagon); George Thompson (one of the two men behind the horse, other is unknown); Warren Kenney (by horse's head); two unknown youngsters; Z. B. Ingalls; Joseph Lewando; William J. Mattison; and Norman Peavey. The two women in the buggy near the door are Mrs. John Gleason and a niece.
