This view is taken from Central Ave. and shows the junction with South Main St., c. 1905. Wolfeboro Bay is in the background. The left building is the Belvue House, built 1847, later named Lake Shore House, 1892, and the Ann Inn, 1921. Razed in 1940 for a gas station, the site is now Town & Cate Park. The building in the middle of the photo is William Rogers Meat Market. On its right is D. U. Hobbs & Co. Drug Store. The small one-store building to the right of Hobbs is Harvey C. Kalloch's convenience store. The telephone exchange was once located there. The tall pole to the right of Kalloch's is the Town Liberty Pole, a prominent landmark for many years. Over 100 feet tall, the pole was a gathering spot for speeches and special announcements. Note the watering station in the center; that corner is now where the Post Office is located.
