This photo is taken from Cate Park looking toward South Main St. It reflects the appearance from the early 1940's until 1967. The site from the street to the lake shore was previously a hotel built in 1847, called Horn's on the Lake, Belvue House, Lake Shore House, and Ann Inn. The hotel was razed in 1940. The streetside building in the center is the Fred E. Varney Esso Gas Station. The foreground became known as Cate Park. In 1967, the gas station was torn down, and its site became Town Park.
