This panorama of downtown taken from Lake Winnipesaukee goes from North Main St. to South Main St. To the left of center is the smoke from the operating Joseph P. Varney Tannery at the end of Endicott St. Moving to the right is the steeple of the First Congregational Church, then the cupola on the Durgin Block. To the right of center, the adjacent large buildings are the Boston & Maine RR Wharf Building and the Goodwin Block, both later burned down in 1899. The Peavey Block is not yet built, which dates the photo to before 1889. On the far right, the second building from the right is the Glendon House, Wolfeboro's second largest hotel at the time (the Pavilion at Pickering Corner was the largest). That site is now the Post Office.
