The men in the foreground are working on a log raft on the way to the sawmill. The passage under the bridge is nearby, to the right of this scene. The background is the large Carroll D. Piper house, built c. 1873 on North Main St. It was relocated in one piece in 1956 toward the lakefront; a Gulf gas station was built in its place in 1957. The gas station was replaced by the Yum Yum Bakery in 1977.
