View from Town Hall looking west, c. 1900. The two houses on the right are now the site of the supermarket & drugstore. The Bank Building is in the right center. On the left, the group of staggered buildings is the Lake Shore House, later the Ann Inn, razed in 1940 to become Town & Cate Park. The open water is by the outlet of the Smith River flowing thru Back Bay. Follow the curve in Main St. & the Durgin Block (with its original prominent cupola) is on the right, and on the left is the round turret of the Piper House, which was moved closer to the Lake in 1956 (its original site is now the Yum Yum Bakery).
