Boston & Maine train at the Excelsior Mill siding at Wolfeboro Falls. William Howard Willey, in the boxcar, was one of a dozen or more teamsters (have horse & wagon, will work) in town. This excelsior load delivery is c. 1920. Made from poplar wood, excelsior was made in large quantities from logs rafted into Back Bay & was an important local industry. The largest maker was the steam-powered Berry Mill in Wolfeboro Falls, operating from 1895 into the 1970's. The buildings remained in place until they burned in 1994.
